Project Description
A stunning site on the banks of the River Thames but within the flood zone. The planning guidelines set a minimum floor level for any new dwelling, which was a minimum of 1.5metres above the existing site levels. The answer was to raise the entire dwelling off the ground on a steel structure to allow the flood waters to pass underneath without any damage to the structure.
The internal layout of the building is designed to meet the modern living standards of a family with small children. The open plan layout can divide further into a series of movable screens. The terraces draw light into the plan maximising the potential for passive solar gain, break down the mass of the building and help link the building, garden and rivers.
