Extension at Howth Head, County Dublin
Cantilevered into the tree canopy this proposed extension will have some of the best views in Dublin
Project Description
Recently granted planning permission, this unashamedly modern extension sits between Thormanby Road and the Howth Cliff Path. Despite its sensitive location, the property is not visible from the surrounding area, and extensive studies were conducted to ensure the proposal would not affect the amenity of this picturesque location.
The site is screened on three sides by the mature pine trees that informed its design. By extending a new wing level with the existing ground floor, the steeply sloping site means that the new living spaces sit more than a storey above ground level and are nestled within the tree canopy. This cantilevered wing has been rotated to avoid damage to these trees and now faces the views across Dublin Bay. The resulting spaces offer a new experience of nature, taking in panoramic views of the site and filtered sunlight through the trees' shade.
