Refurbishment Blackrock, County Louth
Extensive refurbishment and extension of a suburban home in Blackrock, County Louth
Project Description
This project was for a complete remodelling and extension of the existing 1960s dormer bungalow. The brief was to design a contemporary extension to the existing house without reducing the garden area, and to remodel the layout to support modern family living. Rock Road has a diverse architectural heritage, typically characterised by dormer bungalows, and features a predominance of poorly designed houses across a range of plot sizes.
This range of architectural styles, all representative of their time, informed a design that combines modern detailing and material finishes with more traditional proportions. This proposal reinterprets the traditional architectural language of the dormer window, prevalent in the Blackrock area, with a sculptural aesthetic that clearly identifies it as a contemporary intervention.
