Solving the problem of PPE waste

As countries around the world begin lifting lockdown restrictions, the demand for single-use PPE is growing, both within medical and care settings and in everyday life.

When PPE is disposed of incorrectly, it poses a risk to local communities and to the environment. Palmar is a fully compostable solution that is designed with a safe disposal option, reducing the risk of inappropriate disposal. Users can securely transport the used glove home and dispose of safely in green waste bins. It is suitable for use while completing everyday tasks, such as shopping or going to the office.

Palmar is different

We analysed how we use our hands to complete essential, non-medical tasks, from opening doors to pressing buttons. Palmar protects your palm, thumb and index finger for comprehensive protection from the most common surface contact areas, while providing a low-cost, sustainable alternative to traditional gloves. Palmar is not suitable for use in medical or care settings.

Less material avoids unnecessary waste

Palmar's unique stick-on design is specifically designed to protect the areas of the hand that are vulnerable to germ transmission while carrying out essential public tasks.

Single use, without costing the earth

Palmar's cardboard sleeve offers a safe disposal unit after use. This was designed to combat the rise in littering of potentially hazardous materials in our environment.

Utilises fully compostable materials

Unlike any other product on the market, Palmar is fully compostable within 6 months and leaves no toxic residue. It is EN 13432 compliant and suitable for disposal in food/green waste bins.

Portable design, always with you

Stored in a credit card sized cardboard sleeve, Palmar provides effective incidental hand protection. The cardboard sleeve may be affixed to the lining of a jacket or stored in a wallet.

Always with you

Compact and portable, Palmar is designed to provide comprehensive protection wherever you are. Always at hand, Palmar's adhesive surface allows it to be stored inside a jacket until ready to be used. Alternatively, the glove can be stored inside your wallet within a cardboard sleeve.

Easy to use

The glove is easy to apply and secured to the hand using the index finger and thumb tabs. The glove will protect all areas of your hand that commonly come into contact with potentially contaminated surfaces. Palmar's design reduces the amount of materials needed without compromising on protection.

Skin safe adhesive

Palmar is affixed to the hand using a low-tack, organic adhesive. Taking inspiration from the screen printing process, areas of the hands that need higher levels of adhesiveness are designed with a higher density of glue dots. In other areas, a lower density of glue dots is used. This allows optimal dexterity of the hand without compromising on protection. By using glue responsibly, Palmar further reduces its impact on the environment.

Approved by Occupational Therapists

Palmar’s design has been approved by Dr Katie Cremin, Assistant Professor in Occupational Therapy at St James Hospital, Dublin. She sees the benefit of Palmar to a range of people in society, including those returning to work and children returning to school and play groups. She notes in particular the ease of application and removal compared to traditional gloves that makes Palmar an ideal option for children. Group play is an important part of children’s development and with Palmar, children may be able to more safely engage in group play with shared objects without risking their physical health.
