Extension at Howth Head, County Dublin

Cantilevered into the tree canopy this proposed extension will have some of the best views in Dublin

Exterior view of the 'Howth Head' located in County Dublin and was designed by 'Dublin Design Studio' as part of a refurbishment project

Project Description

Recently granted planning, this unashamedly modern extension sits within the zone between Thormanby Road and the Howth cliff path.
Despite the sensitive of location, the property is not visible from its environs and extensive studies were carried out to ensure that the proposal would not affect the amenity of this picturesque location.

The site is screened on three sides by the mature pine trees that informed its design. By extending a new wing level with the existing ground floor, the steeply sloping site has meant that the new living spaces sit more than a storey above ground level and nestled within the tree canopy. This cantil-evered wing has been cranked to avoid damage to these trees and turns to face the views across Dublin Bay.  The resulting spaces enjoy nature in
a new experiencing both the panoramic views from the site and the filtered sunlight through the shade of the trees.
