1916 Memorial Crematorium

Competition entry for a living memorial  for this important year

In so many cultures and throughout history the celebration of life or achievements are marked with the procession of mourners through vaults or arches whether symbolically or physically. Whether the Emporatic monumental arches of Rome, the Arc de Triomphe, the great memorials by Lutyens, the roofs of Christian churches this language is universal. This design reinterpreted this motif as a timeless architectural motif rooting the building in the ground yet contrasting this mass with transparency creating views towards the environment.
